History

What began as a spark of inspiration quickly became a call to action, rippling across borders and igniting a movement. This was the month when visionaries first came together, united by a shared belief in the power of peaceful space exploration to transform humanity’s future. From that point forward, nothing would be the same.

158 years ago, five visionaries with diverse perspectives on a single issue—caring for wounded soldiers—came together around one table. Despite their differing views, they united around a common goal: to explore and actualize the groundbreaking ideas of Henry Dunant. What began as a local initiative in Geneva quickly gained momentum, expanding to national and international levels. In less than two years, their efforts culminated in the creation of an international law—now recognized as jus cogens (a peremptory norm of international law). This law became a cornerstone for states aspiring to equal membership in the United Nations.
This is the powerful legacy of International Humanitarian Law.

Today, history is echoing through a new initiative—this time from Bitola, Macedonia. Three passionate individuals have come together to launch the International COSMIC MOVEMENT (ICM), drawing inspiration from the pioneering ideas of Macedonian Space Law expert, Aleksandar Tashkovski. Their vision has already gained momentum, with support from two more fellow Macedonians and a growing network now spanning nine countries.

Our mission is clear: to develop a transformative international legal framework that enforces the Benefit Principle of International Space Law. We aim to ensure that the vast potential of space exploration is shared equitably—benefiting all people, nations, and individuals, regardless of their position on Earth or in space. Together, we are shaping a future where the boundless opportunities of outer space belong to everyone.
